On 30 May 2017, an international seminar “The Art of Restoration” opened in the State Hermitage devoted to research in the field of restoration and matters relating to the use of traditional and modern restoration methods.
peeches of welcome were given by Deputy General Director and Chief Curator of the State Hermitage Svetlana Borisovna Adaksina and the head of the OPTEC group of companies Maxim Semionovich Igelnik.
The holding of the seminar is part of the collaboration agreement between the State Hermitage, the Carl Zeiss Microscopy concern and the OPTEC group. Leading specialists in the field of restoration, physics, chemistry and innovative technologies have been invited. Speakers and guests at the seminar are members of staff from museums, libraries, restoration centres and institutions of higher education in various Russian cities and European countries, and also from Australia, South Korea and the United States of America.
The programme includes reports on the restoration and study of an extremely broad range of cultural artefacts. They examine examples of the restoration of individual works, generalize the experience of using particular materials, and issues of conducting physical and chemical examinations and of new technologies.
The seminar continues until 2 June.
