The large-scale tests of the reactor plant have been completed at start-up power unit No.1 of Belarus NPP

April 15, 2020 – The important and large-scale stage of the nuclear facility preparation program  for commissioning – hot run testing of the reactor plant (RP) – was successfully completed at the first power unit of Belarus NPP (the General Designer and the General Contractor – ROSATOM Engineering Division).

During the hot run being held from December 11, 2019, specialists performed 242 different tests the main purpose of which was to confirm the compliance of nuclear island systems and equipment with design characteristics when operating under nominal parameters, as well as during the warm-up and cooldown of the RP before the power unit start-up.

At operational parameters (under primary circuit pressure of 160 kg/sq.cm and temperature of +2800С), the functionality of all four main circulation pumps, the operability of control and protection system of the reactor plant and auxiliary power supply was checked, main steam lines own steam blowdown was made. Testing of steam generators, pressurizer main safety valves was performed and other operations.

“We have completed the hot trial stage. The entire scope of required tests was performed at the nominal parameters of the reactor plant, as well as within the period of its warm-up and cooldown.  The testing showed that all equipment and process systems of the power unit involved in the test program complies with design characteristics, – the Vice President – Director for Belarus NPP Construction Project of ASE EC JSC, Vitaly Polyanin declared”. – At the stage of the unit power start-up, a number of tests are expected to be repeated. The next construction stage as per the power unit physical start-up preparation program, – the revision of main and auxiliary equipment of the power unit primary and secondary circuits, the completion of which is scheduled in the middle of June”.
