Rosatom Wind Farms Have Generated Over 1 Billion kWh of Electricity Year to Date

The wind farms operated by NovaWind, Rosatom’s wind power division, generated a total of 1.1 billion kWh of electric power in the first six months of 2023, up 110 million kWh year on year. In the first half of 2022, their total output exceeded 987 million kWh.

For half a year, the wind farms prevented the emission of over 380 000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent.

Since the first wind farm was put in operation on 1 March 2020 and until Q2 2023, Rosatom’s wind power plants generated as much as 4.5 billion kWh of electricity. The growth of accumulated power output accelerated by 25% after the commissioning of the Berestovskaya and Kuzminskaya Wind Farms in 2023.

The 2023 output includes electric power generated by eight wind farms with a total installed capacity of 880 MW operating in the Republic of Adygea, Stavropol Krai, and Rostov Region.

For reference:

NovaWind is Rosatom’s wind power division consolidating efforts of the Russian nuclear corporation in advanced areas of the energy generation technology. Established in September 2017, the company accumulates Rosatom’s competencies in wind power generation, from design and construction to mechanical engineering and operation of wind farms. As of today, NovaWind has commissioned 940 MW of wind power capacity. By 2027, Rosatom will put a total of around 1.7 GW of wind capacity in operation.

A source of electricity for industry and households, wind power paves the way for a progressive social and economic development of the country. Russia continues to upgrade its power generation facilities, including nuclear capacity. These efforts are fully in line with the current trends towards digitalization and import substitution. Low-carbon power sources already account for nearly 40% of the Russian energy mix. With the share of wind and nuclear power growing, low-carbon generation will only expand in the future.
