Optimists of Northern Capital. Gazprom Cup regatta series concludes at St. Petersburg Yacht Club

On August 21, the St. Petersburg Yacht Club held the award ceremony for the winners and participants of the Optimists of the Northern Capital. Gazprom Cup regatta – Russia’s largest national children’s sports tournament, which has been held since 2012 by the St. Petersburg Yacht Club and the Sailing Academy with support from Gazprom and Gazprom Transgaz Saint Petersburg.

The four stages of the 2019 regatta series brought together both experienced athletes and beginners. The competition had five categories: Girls, Boys, Young Girls, Young Boys, and Cadets – yacht racers in the first year of their training.

The concluding stage of the regatta started on August 17 and featured 184 athletes, of which 147 competed for the top spot in the overall standings and 37 – for the victory in the Cadets category.

In the Boys category, the champion’s title went to Kirill Shunenkov, a racer from the Sailing Academy, who finished first in all four stages of the regatta. Second place was taken by Artyom Maksimkin from the Vodnik sailing club, and third place by Nikita Chernykh, also from the Sailing Academy.

In the Girls category, first and second places, respectively, were taken by Alisa Ivanova and Dina Zhilkina from the Vodnik sailing club, and Daria Savinova from the Favorit sports school in Vyborg ended up third.

In the Cadet Girls category, Ioanna Li finished first, Ksenia Romanova took second place, and Varvara Yurchenko was awarded third place.

In the Cadet Boys category, Stepan Ivanov came out on top, with Stepan Sborshchikov second and Roman Nikolaev third.

In the Young Girls category, Dina Zhilkina won first place, and Yulia Naimushina and Eva Turkina got second and third places, respectively.

In the Young Boys category, Daniil Larchenkov became the winner, Nikolai Larchenkov secured second place, and Dmitry Eryomin won third place.
