November 23, 2021, Moscow, Russia – Akkuyu NPP project management system was ranked first in the annual Russian contest of professional project management Project Olympus 2021, organized by the Analytical Center under the Government of the Russian Federation.
Apart from the main prize in State Corporations, Government-Owned Companies, Commercial and Public Organizations, and Development Institutions nomination, AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC also received awards in special nominations: Certificate of conformance of the Company’s Project Management System to national and international standards of the Project Management series (2022-2026) and a special prize of Project Risk Management.
“The strongest project companies, which have unique experience in managing complex projects and have a great impact on the development of the economy, participate in the contest. They demonstrate the most effective tools of project management, which can be applied at the state level,” stressed Mr. Kalinin, Head of Analytical Center under the Government of the Russian Federation.
Mrs. Zoteeva, Chief Executive Officer of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC pointed out, “There are a lot of things that influence the project management system of Akkuyu NPP – it is the first nuclear power plant in the Republic of Turkey, it is the first NPP to be built according to Build-Own-Operate model and so on. Akkuyu NPP project has formed a strong international team of professionals, and the victory in the contest is the result of their well-coordinated work. We are fully immersed in the NPP lifecycle scenario in all areas of the Project implementation. While ensuring maximum construction activity at the NPP site, we also take into account the distant prospects of the Project implementation: personnel training, infrastructure development, providing conditions for the plant operation in future.”
For reference:
The construction of the first nuclear power plant in Turkey, Akkuyu, on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea, is one of the most large-scale strategic projects of the Russian-Turkish cooperation and includes 4 power units with Russian generation 3+ VVER-1200 reactors with a total capacity of 4,800 MW. Akkuyu NPP project is an example of ROSATOM’s package turnkey proposal for the construction of a nuclear power plant, which includes assistance in creating the necessary national legislative framework, development of nuclear and network infrastructure, a solution for financing nuclear projects, training and retraining of national personnel, and localization of production. Rosatom not only builds the nuclear power plant, but is also the supplier of all main and auxiliary equipment. Throughout its lifetime, the ready NPP will provide a work load for Russian businesses, including the fuel sector, service, modernization, and the chain of NPP decommissioning companies in future. Such a project outline is attractive for the customer countries and forms long-term opportunities for the development of the Russian nuclear industry. The awards ceremony was held in Moscow on November 18, 2021, during Project Management Practice conference.
A total of 283 applications were submitted for this year’s contest, 26 of which were in Project Management System nomination. Major federal and regional companies are among contest participants.
