Background
The supplies of Russian gas to China via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline started in 2019 under the long-term Sales and Purchase Agreement between Gazprom and CNPC. Each year since 2020, the supplies have been in excess of the annual contractual obligations of Gazprom.
On December 1, 2024, following China’s request, the daily exports via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline were brought to the maximum contractual level one month earlier than initially scheduled. Since then, three new all-time highs for daily gas exports to China via Power of Siberia have already been recorded.
Throughout 2024, Gazprom’s pipeline gas supplies grew by more than 35 per cent and covered about a quarter of China’s additional demand for gas.
