On April 15, a roundtable entitled “Risk Management: New Challenges and Opportunities for Sustainable Development Goals Achievement” will take place as part of the 11th ATOMEXPO International Forum.
The roundtable has been organized by State Atomic Energy Corporation ROSATOM, with representatives of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the World Nuclear Association (WNA) taking part. The event will feature presentations by Head of Nuclear Knowledge Management at IAEA David Drury, Director of the Harmony Programme at the World Nuclear Association King Lee, as well as experts and partners from the Big Four accounting firms and leading risk management consultants from major international companies. The discussion will be moderated by Rothschild Senior Adviser Peter Bird.
The participants in the roundtable will discuss the challenges and opportunities for the development of a risk management system in energy companies. One of the key topics at the discussion will be how to integrate risk management systems into the decision-making process in energy companies in an effective manner. The participants will discuss issues related to qualitative and quantitative risk assessment in the construction of NPPs. They will also consider examples and mechanisms for integrating risk management and project management systems in the nuclear sector.
The roundtable will take place from 9am to 11am in the Yellow Conference Hall of the Main Media Centre.
For reference:
Consumers of electricity around the world are increasingly opting for clean energy sources. Governments, companies and ordinary people care about how the goods and services purchased by the consumer are produced. Electricity is no exception, which is why nuclear power, as a form of environmentally free energy source that ensures the stable generation of electricity, will play an increasingly important role. At the same time, growing competition and the changes in market conditions and consumer expectations are forcing energy companies to constantly improve the services they offer, developing risk management systems and increasing the effectiveness of the management models they already use.
The main topic for this year’s Forum is “Nuclear for better life.” For the first time in the history of the Forum, the business programme has been compiled by the International Programme Committee, which is made up of: Director-General of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency William Magwood, Director General of the World Nuclear Association (WNA) Agneta Rising, former Chairman of the World Association of Nuclear Operators Jacques Régaldo and former Director-General of the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency Luis E. Echávarri, among others. ATOMEXPO 2019 participants (heads of state structures, major companies and public organizations, as well as international experts) will discuss global issues in the development of carbon-free energy, a responsible approach to the environment and natural resources, green investments and international partnerships for sustainable development. Among the key topics at roundtables are: the non-energy application of nuclear and radiation technologies in industry, science, medicine and agriculture; digital solutions for infrastructure projects; knowledge management; and the development of human capital assets. A number of important documents are expected to be signed on the side-lines of the Forum, including agreements on strategic cooperation and partnership, commercial contracts and documents on the development of projects. The exhibition will feature a wide range of advanced nuclear technologies and new products, including products that are not related to the energy industry. The exhibition area will take up over 13,000 square metres.
