Concreting of the containment dome of Unit 1 has been completed at Rooppur NPP construction site in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh (the general designer and the general contractor is ROSATOM’s Engineering Division). The works were performed by specialists of RosSEM Trust LLC (part of ROSATOM’s Engineering Division). In total, over 3200 cubic meters of concrete were laid in the structure more than 17.6 meters high with the diameter of the foundation of 42.8 meters.
“Concreting of the containment dome is the final stage of construction of the passive safety system. The works at the next stages will include the CPS strands tensioning and the containment testing”, said Alexey Deriy, Vice President of ASE JSC – Director of Rooppur NPP construction project.
The inner containment is one of the main elements of the NPP safety system. It does not only protect the reactor compartment but also provides support to the pipelines penetrations and the polar crane, which is used for servicing the reactor.
For reference:
Rooppur NPP with two VVER-1200 reactors with the total capacity of 2400 MW is being constructed under the Russian design, 160 km from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, in accordance with the general contract dated December 25, 2015. The Russian design with VVER-1200 reactors has been selected for the first NPP in Bangladesh. The design has been successfully implemented in two power units of Novovoronezh NPP. This is an evolutionary design of III+ generation, which is fully compliant with the international safety requirements.
