The Belogorsk – Khabarovsk gas pipeline will connect the existing Power of Siberia and Sakhalin – Khabarovsk – Vladivostok gas pipelines. This is the primary stage of the “Eastern Gas Supply System (EGSS)” Gas Trunkline System project. The EGSS project provides for a comprehensive development of gas transmission capacities in eastern Russia and their further integration with the gas transmission system in the European part of the country.
The construction of the Belogorsk – Khabarovsk gas pipeline is 37.6 per cent complete.
In particular, by now, as many as 356 out of 828 kilometers of the gas pipeline have already been welded, laid and backfilled. The construction of the submerged crossings under the Arkhara and Tom Rivers was completed, and work is in progress on the crossings under the Amur, Bureya, Tuguska, and Zeya Rivers.
In the future, it is planned to add gas pipeline branches to the Belogorsk – Khabarovsk gas pipeline to expand the gas grid coverage in the cities of Belogorsk and Birobidzhan located along the gas pipeline route.
Preparatory works are underway on another EGSS section.
Laser scanning of the area was performed and comprehensive engineering surveys are nearing completion at the section between the existing Anganskaya and Alexandrovskaya compressor stations. This section will connect the existing gas trunklines running across the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area – Yugra and the Tomsk Region. It will create possibilities for supplying additional gas volumes to the consumers in the Republic of Altai, the Altai Territory, as well as the Kemerovo, Novosibirsk and Tomsk Regions.
EGSS is a transition of onshore gas pipelines to the record-high pressure of 150 atm.
Russian pipe manufacturers created a unique steel pipe of K70 strength class with a diameter of 1,420 millimeters for Gazprom and mastered the production of this item. The new-generation pipes are designed for the working pressure of 150 atm (14.7 MPa), a record-high pressure for onshore gas pipelines. Russia will become the first country in the world that uses such pipes for the construction of gas pipelines.
The innovative solution makes it possible to increase the gas pipeline’s throughput capacity without significant changes in its metal consumption and requires fewer compressor stations. As a result, we observe optimized capital and operational costs combined with a high reliability of gas transmission.
Welding procedures have already been adopted for the construction of EGSS gas pipelines with the use of the new-generation pipes. Russian industrial enterprises have developed equipment for compressing, purifying and cooling gas at the working pressure of 150 atm. The creation of pipeline fittings and shut-off and control valves that are compliant with the specified requirements is at its final stage.
Today, the Board of Directors approved Gazprom’s work on implementing the “Eastern Gas Supply System” Gas Trunkline System project.
