On June 24, a delegation from the Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute (VINATOM) made an introductory visit to Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU, one of Rosatom’s partner universities). Together with representatives of Rosatom and industry enterprises (State Specialized Design Institute JSC (GSPI), Rosatom Technical Academy, Rosatom Compliance Technologies JSC (RTS), and others), they discussed personnel training for the development of projects in the field of nuclear technology in the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (earlier, Rosatom and the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam signed an interdepartmental road map for the development of nuclear technologies for the period up to 2030). Representatives of Rosatom presented a comprehensive approach to systematic personnel training for partner countries, as well as TPU’s experience in personnel training for the Center for Nuclear Research and Technology (CNRT) in El Alto, Bolivia. During the discussion, the Vietnamese side expressed interest in both traditional master’s and postgraduate studies, as well as the professional upskilling programs. Following the visit, the parties agreed to form a joint working group on personnel training and outline a roadmap for educational activities. During the visit, the delegation toured the university’s research nuclear reactor and its educational and scientific laboratories.
According to the head of the Vietnamese delegation, Dr. Nguyen Kien Kyong, Deputy Director of the Dalat Research Institute, about 1,900 specialists need to be trained for the country’s first nuclear power plant, and about 300 university graduates for the future Center for Nuclear Science and Technology. “Upon visiting Tomsk Polytechnic University, we have been convinced that Russia has all the opportunities for personnel training, including short-term courses and practical internships. During the visit, we are considering many serious issues that will need to be worked out in detail with our partners,” he stressed.
