A Gazprom delegation is taking part in the African Energy Week.
A panel session on Russia-Africa energy partnership was held as part of the event. Taking part in the panel session were Dmitry Khandoga, Head of Department at Gazprom, Roman Marshavin, Deputy Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation, and representatives of a number of Russian and African companies. The panel discussion was moderated by NJ Ayuk, Executive Chairman of the African Energy Chamber.
Gazprom’s pilot project for delivering two CNG trailers to Tanzania was presented at the session. The CNG trailers will be used for refilling different types of vehicles with compressed natural gas, as well as for CNG transportation. This will help increase the daily number of refueling operations conducted in Tanzania’s NGV fuel market. The number of local vehicle owners who opt for natural gas is rapidly growing.
Apart from that, the CNG trailers can be used for off-grid gas supplies to industrial and private consumers.
“The Global South in general, and the African continent in particular, will be a new growth point of natural gas consumption. The population increase and the urbanization trend necessitate the possibility of using a reliable and clean energy source, which natural gas certainly is. Gazprom’s experience in the development of the domestic gas market, as well as the Company’s expertise, technologies and equipment can be made use of for solving the energy supply tasks in African countries,” said Dmitry Khandoga.
