On October 6, the 12th “We Are Just Like You!” Olympiad for children with special needs was held in Sakhalin with support from Gazprom Transgaz Tomsk. Taking part in the competition were 40 athletes aged 7 to 14 years old from Kirov Children’s Boarding School and the Preodoleniye social rehabilitation center. The sporting event was organized by the Sakhalinskoye Pipeline Operation Center of Gazprom Transgaz Tomsk, the Aridi society for disabled children, and the Ministry of Social Protection of the Sakhalin Region.
“The primary mission of these competitions is to help children socialize and learn to interact with other children,” said Irina Shcherbakova, Director of the Chaika medical and social rehabilitation center that hosted the Olympiad. “I would like to thank the gas workers who help with arranging this event every year.”
“Special children need a special approach, which is why staging the Olympiad requires hard work from the Ministry, the rehabilitation center, the boarding school, the volunteers, and, of course, the parents,” said Sergey Burdinsky, Deputy Director of the Sakhalinskoye Pipeline Operation Center of Gazprom Transgaz Tomsk. “Every adult wants to see children healthy and happy. The Olympiad offers that opportunity: it makes children healthier and happier!”
At the close of the sporting event, the children received gifts from Gazprom Transgaz Tomsk and the Ministry of Social Protection of the Sakhalin Region.
