Trade unions within the Gazprom Workers’ Union Interregional Organization have provided over RUB 70 million to support the efforts aimed at preventing the spread of the coronavirus. The funds are to be used to purchase protective and preventive products: face masks, disinfectants, non-contact thermometers, germicidal lamps, bactericidal air recirculators, medications, etc. The Presidium of the Gazprom Workers’ Union also recommended that trade unions use the funds collected from membership fees to buy test systems or to have their members tested for the coronavirus infection. All activities are performed in cooperation with the administrations of Gazprom’s subsidiaries.
Trade unions have assisted in setting up volunteer teams, which furnish help to veterans of companies. The volunteers bring food, personal care products, and medications to the pensioners, check that they are in good health, and, if necessary, provide emotional support to them.
“The Gazprom Workers’ Union keeps track of what is going on in each team of employees. We know that this is not an easy time for our staff, and that they have to work in unusual conditions. We have been in daily contact with our social partner, and we are making joint and well-thought-out decisions in an orderly fashion. The measures implemented today are forced, temporary, and extraordinary. They are designed and implemented solely to protect the health of the employees,” said Vladimir Kovalchuk, Chairman of the Gazprom Workers’ Union.
