International students from NRNU MEPhI and other Consortium universities of ROSATOM took part in the International Career Day of ROSATOM on December 10, where they received the necessary information about the development of nuclear projects and nuclear infrastructure organizations in their countries, as well as established contact with potential employers. The event was organized by MEPhI with the support of ROSATOM.
The event was attended by over 150 students from partner universities of ROSATOM – Natioanl Research Nuclear University MEPhI, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, Moscow Power Engineering Institute, Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University, Tomsk Polytechnic University from 23 countries, representatives of ROSATOM business organizations (Rusatom Service JSC, Rusatom Overseas JSC, Akkuyu Nuclear JSC, Rusatom Energy International JSC, Rusatom – International Network), and also foreign partners: Uzatom Agency, “BelEnergo”, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, Rwanda Atomic Energy Board, Vietnam Atomic Energy Institute (VinAtom), National Research and Innovation Agency BRIN (Indonesia), etc.
In her welcome speech, Natalya Barbashina, Vice-Rector of NRNU MEPhI, announced that more than fifty foreign students of the university are preparing to defend their theses in MEPhI. “Future graduates and undergraduate students – there is a difficult choice of your future career path. Today you can talk to your future employers, ask them all your questions. I hope today’s event will be useful for all of you” she concluded.
Vera Upirova, senior manager of ROSATOM project office on education development and international cooperation, emphasized in her speech that the training of highly qualified personnel, development of human resources creates a foundation for the leadership of the state corporation in the global market. She said that Rosatom State Corporation has been actively working in the field of personnel training for foreign countries for over 10 years. Today, more than 1,800 foreign students from 60 countries all over the globe study at the partner universities of the state corporation in nuclear and related fields. Seven graduations of foreign graduate have already taken place, these are more than 500 young specialists, and most of them have been successfully employed in a home country. “The nuclear industry is waiting for the smartest, most talented graduates like you. University graduates are a real national capital, and the future of your country depends on each of you. Now you too will be responsible for the implementation of nuclear programs. This is a good opportunity to put your skills and abilities into practice. ROSATOM International Career Day is dedicated to helping you with this”concluded Vera Upirova.
Liliya Dulinets, Deputy Director of the Department of Nuclear Energy of the Ministry of Energy of Belarus, also addressed to the participants of the event. She said that today 65 citizens of the Republic of Belarus are studying at MEPhI. Among them, 10 people receive training in nuclear and related specialties, 10 people – in applied mathematics and computer science, 36 people – in economic security, and 9 – in nanoelectronics. “These graduates will represent valuable human resources not only for Belarusian nuclear power plants, but also for other Belarusian organizations that will be involved in our national nuclear infrastructure. Training of Belarusian specialists in Russian universities not only provides high-quality specialists to Belarusian organizations, but also contributes to strengthening mutual understanding between the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation and is the basis for future effective cooperation in the implementation of joint projects in the field of nuclear energy ”she said.
The Ambassador of Bolivia in Russia Maria Luiza Ramos, Ambassador of Zambia in Russia Shadreck Chingembu Luvita and Director of the Department of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey Salih Sari also gave a speech to foreign students. They talked about the successful cooperation with ROSATOM in the field of training specialists for the nuclear industry.
MEPhI alumni shared their experience of successful employment in nuclear industry in their home countries.
After the plenary session, the students were working in groups, where representatives of the ROSATOM organizations, Ambassadors of foreign countries in Russia, representatives of foreign ministries and departments, and other international experts spoke to them. The students were told about the status of the implementation of the nuclear program in their home countries and human resources development policies. Participants of the event asked questions to potential employers concerning their further employment.
ROSATOM International Career Day is one of the events aimed at developing mutually beneficial cooperation to provide ROSATOM partner countries with highly qualified personnel and to create an effective national infrastructure for the management and regulation of the program for the peaceful use of atomic energy.
