Release
The Gazprom Board of Directors took note of the information about the work being done by the Company to promote natural gas (methane) as a vehicle fuel.
It was stressed that wider use of NGV fuel was one of Gazprom’s strategic thrusts in the domestic market. The Company is involved in the NGV refueling infrastructure development, cooperates with manufacturers of natural gas-powered machinery and refueling equipment and coordinates the efforts of NGV market participants.
Extensive efforts are being made to inform potential consumers about the benefits of methane as the most eco-friendly and economical type of vehicle fuel. To this end, the Company employs a whole range of up-to-date communication means, including mass media, social networks and advertising.
The relevant information is regularly posted on the websites of Gazprom and Gazprom Gazomotornoye Toplivo (www.gazprom-gmt.ru). Specialized websites provide detailed information about the existing network of Gazprom’s CNG filling stations (www.gazprom-agnks.ru), allow to quickly design an itinerary taking into account the location of these stations, or to get acquainted with a range of NGV equipment that can be purchased in Russia (www.ecogas-auto.ru).
Gazprom created a special brand name, EcoGas, for natural gas sold at the Company-owned gas filling stations. Its trademark is registered in Russia and abroad.
NGV topics are traditionally covered by the Company at major national and international exhibitions and forums. In particular, an exhibition of gas cylinder equipment is annually arranged at the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum, along with the display of cutting-edge domestic equipment for gas filling stations.
Since 2008, the Company has sponsored large-scale NGV rallies. Over the years, the events spread to around 100 cities of Russia, CIS countries and beyond. In particular, the motor rally held for NGVs powered by liquefied natural gas in 2018, was the longest in the world. It covered 9,881 kilometers and passed through Russia, Kazakhstan and China.
The Gas-fueled KAMAZ project meant to highlight the benefits of natural gas as a vehicle fuel was set up in 2013 by the KAMAZ-Master team with the backing of Gazprom and VTB Bank. This gas-powered sports truck successfully overcomes the extended routes of increased complexity and regularly takes top places at prestigious competitions. In 2016, the gas-fueled KAMAZ became the winner of the Crystal Compass Russian national award in the Best Environmental Project of Industrial Enterprises and Businesses nomination.
Gazprom advocates the environmental benefits of natural gas as a vehicle fuel at various public events. For example, special information areas were organized at the FIFA Confederations Cup 2017, the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, and the Football for Friendship international children’s social project.
Gazprom’s consistent efforts aimed at expanding the use of gas as a vehicle fuel yields impressive results. From 2015 to 2018, the demand for this type of fuel within Gazprom’s gas filling network amounted to 598.2 million cubic meters, showing a 37 per cent increase.
The Gazprom Management Committee was tasked to continue the work on the promotion of natural gas (methane) as a vehicle fuel.
