VetroSGC JSC (part of NovaWind, the ROSATOM division for wind power) and SiburEnergoManagement signed an agreement to supply power to BIAXPLEN Ltd. (part of PJSC SIBUR Holding) for BOPP film production facility in Novokuybyshevsk (Samara Region). Electricity will be supplied from the Adygeya Wind Farm.
The task for the supplier and the consumer at this stage is to test the work with wind power generation to find the optimal formats for cooperation and increase the volume of supplies.
“Currently, one of the significant factors giving a competitive edge to enterprises is their policy to minimize the use of carbon raw materials, including adherence to the policy throughout the chain of contractors and suppliers. NovaWind helps reduce carbon footprint of production facilities and move towards sustainable development for as many companies as possible,” Aleksandr Korchagin, NovaWind CEO, noted.
“Reducing carbon footprint of manufactured products, which can be achieved by increasing the share of green energy, is a global trend today. SIBUR, being part of the global business community, is also actively involved in this process. In 2019, we launched a solar power plant at one of our facilities and plan to further increase the use of renewable energy sources both through our own generation and through direct contracts with green energy suppliers. This is an integral goal under SIBUR’s Sustainable Development Strategy until 2025 and it helps to reduce our impact on the climate,” Vladimir Tupikin, SIBUR Energy and Resources Director, commented.
We should remind that it is not the first such agreement. A similar contract was signed with the Nestl? Russia branch – Nestl? Purina PetCare factory located in Vorsino settlement, Kaluga Region. According to the contract, the enterprise receives electricity from the Adygeya Wind Farm. The contract provides for the supply of 50 mln kWh.
For reference:
NovaWind JSC is a ROSATOM division implementing the general strategy of the State Corporation for low-carbon energy production based on atomic and wind power. In total, enterprises within NovaWind JSC will have to create wind farms with a total capacity of 1.2 GW by 2024.
BIAXPLEN Ltd. produces biaxially oriented polypropylene films used for the production of soft packaging for food products, consumer goods, labels and scotch tapes.
Electricity is supplied under free bilateral contracts indicating group code of the supply points generating renewable energy, as provided for by the Wholesale Electricity and Capacity Market Regulations. The free bilateral contract register is maintained by NP Market Council Association on a monthly basis. This register includes information on contract volumes and participants. With the development of the renewable energy sector on the territory of the Russian Federation, more and more participants in the wholesale electricity and capacity market enter into such agreements. Thus, responsible consumers confirm that they are ready to use green energy for their business activities. In the world market, direct power purchasing agreement is a frequent practice when companies purchase energy from renewable sources. Confirmation of green energy usage under bilateral agreements complies with the CDP (International Carbon Disclosure Project) reporting standard and is widely used in world practice.
