On February 18 the Eastern Cargo Terminal at the Akkuyu NPP site (the plant is being built by Rosatom in Türkiye), acquired 100th cargo ship since the start of its operation. The vessel was welcomed by Akkuyu Nuclear JSC Chief Executive Officer Sergei Butckikh and Harbor Master Okan Bozkurt.
“While precommissioning works are underway at Unit 1 and construction and installation are ongoing at other units, deliveries of equipment and materials for the NPP continue. The Eastern Cargo Terminal is the most important logistics infrastructure of the project, which ensures uninterrupted delivery of cargoes by sea. Vessels from different countries come to us, and today we are receiving the 100th cargo ship. It delivered parts of gas insulated switchgear and turbine plant components for different power units to the site,” said Sergei Butckikh.
“The Eastern Cargo Terminal is visited by vessels delivering cargoes only for Akkuyu NPP. The terminal’s quay is optimally designed to receive large-sized cargoes, construction materials and equipment, including reactor components. It will operate throughout the life cycle of the nuclear power plant. When entering and leaving the Akkuyu Bay and having mooring operations, cargo ships are provided with pilotage and tugboat escort,” noted Okan Bozkurt.
