On September 29, one of the annual milestones was performed at Unit 1 of Rooppur NPP (General Designer is Atomstroyexport JSC, a part of ROSATOM) under construction in Bangladesh according to the Russian design – the reactor support truss was installed in the design position.
The purpose of the support truss is to fasten the reactor vessel and to resist the weight loads on it.
‘The works are related to the complicated installation since coaxiality tolerances in relation to the reactor pit are just 2 mm. Installation was completed ahead of the scheduled deadline thanks to the well coordinated activities of the employees of the engineering division and the personnel of the construction site, – noted Mr. Sergey Lastochkin, Vice-President – Director for Rooppur NPP construction project, – The works on construction of Units 1 and 2 are progressing in schedule.’
For reference:
Rooppur NPP with two VVER-1200 reactors and the total capacity of 2400 MW is being constructed under the Russian design, 160 km from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, in accordance with General Contract dated 25 December 2015. The General Contractor for Rooppur NPP construction is Atomstroyexport (the engineering division of ROSATOM). The Russian design with VVER-1200 reactors was selected for the first NPP in Bangladesh, that was successfully implemented at Unit No 1 of Novovoronezh NPP-2. This is an evolutionary GenIII+ design which fully complies with all international safety requirements. In 2017, the new Russian power unit was named among the three best nuclear power units in the Word by the well-known international magazine POWER (USA). In 2015-2016, preparatory works were performed at the construction site, detail design documentation and materials for receiving the license for the power unit location and construction, were developed. In 2017, Rooppur NPP project implementation continued according to the schedule. On 4 November 2017, the regulatory authority of Bangladesh (BAERA) issued the license for the NPP design and construction. On 30 November 2017 the active phase of the construction of Rooppur NPP Unit 2 started: the solemn ceremony of “first pour of concrete” into the foundation of the Power Unit was conductedthe ceremony of first concrete pouring for the foundation of Unit No 1, was held. Active phase of the construction of Rooppur NPP Unit 2 started on July 14, 2018. The works at the main buildings and structures of Unit 1 and Unit 2 are currently in progress.
ASE (Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division) was established by integration of the leading companies of the industry: JSC ASE EC (Nizhny Novgorod), JSC Atomstroyexport (Moscow), JSC Atomenergoproekt (Moscow) and JSC ATOMPROEKT (St-Petersburg). ASE is one of the leaders in the global nuclear power engineering business holding about 30% of the global NPP construction market. Engineering Division carries out its activities in Europe, Middle East and Northern Africa as well as in the Asia-Pacific region. 80% of the portfolio include foreign projects. It implements design and construction projects for high-power NPPs, renders a full range of EPC, EPC(M) services and develops Multi-D technologies for management of complex engineering facilities. The Engineering Division rests upon the 50-year experience of the Russian nuclear power industry and state-of-the-art innovation technologies.
