Rosneft has been awarded for its active involvement in the Green Spring—the Russia-wide environmental volunteer clean-up—and badged “For Initiative and Significant Contribution to Protection of the Environment.” Over 15,000 employees from over 80 subsidiaries of Rosneft Oil Company took part in the environmental campaign. Throughout the month, the Company’s employees were cleaning the area of garbage, planting trees, engaging in the development of urban areas and manufacturing sites. Overall, more than 930 hectares were cleaned, which is comparable to 1,870 football fields, almost 1,000 tons of garbage were removed, about 5,000 trees were planted.
Preservation of the environment for future generations is an integral part of the corporate culture and business principles of Rosneft. The Company aims to achieve leadership positions in minimizing the environmental impact and ensuring the eco-friendliness of its production. Rosneft has allocated over 370 billion roubles for environment-oriented activities in the last five years.
The following are Rosneft’s environmental goals for 2022:
- reducing greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions to counter climate change;
- minimizing the environmental footprint—among other things, through the introduction of the best available eco-friendly production technology;
- implementing measures to protect ecosystems and biodiversity, to replenish natural resources, and to cultivate disturbed lands.
Upon the results of their environmental activities, the Company and its subsidiaries received numerous awards: the winner’s diploma of the 14th All-Russian Contest “Leader of Environmental Protection in Russia”, laureate diplomas of the contest “100 Best Organizations of Russia. Ecology and Environmental Management”, winner’s diplomas of the annual regional competition “EcoLeader-2017”, an award of the Russian Geographical Society in “The Best Conservation Object” of 2018, a diploma “The Leader of Environmental Protection Activities in Russia”, and the winner’s diploma in “The Golden Branch of the Planet” of the international organization of parliamentarians for the balanced environment Globe-International Russia.

Green Spring is an annual event that has been organised by the Vernadsky Non-Governmental Ecological Foundation and the Russian Society for Nature Preservation since 2014.
2019 has been a record year in terms of the number of participants. From April 20 to May 20, about 20 million people were engaged in the clean-ups all over Russia. The socially important campaign involved representatives of government authorities, major companies, educational institutions, cultural and healthcare institutions, and public organisations.
