On Saturday, Russia’s Navy Day was celebrated across the country, with the main events taking place in St. Petersburg.
The first Navy Day was held in 1939. By 1980, Navy Day was traditionally celebrated on the last Sunday of July. In 2006, the day received status as an official Russian holiday, and the annual commemoration has continued ever since.
