Peter and Paul Cathedral has undergone several alterations in course of its long history. Permanent display in the belfry tells about the main stages of its construction and restoration. Drawings and photographs, a copy of a famous “Panorama of St. Petersburg” by Alexey Zubov (1716), model of Peter and Paul Cathedral, showing its design in 1733, copies of drawings for the metal steeple of Peter and Paul Cathedral by engineer Dmitry Zhuravsky (1858), an original framework and a rotary mechanism of the Angel of 1858, which served as a weather vane are on display.
During the guided tour you can see a unique complex of the bells of Peter and Paul Cathedral, including Dutch bells of the eighteenth century, Russian church bells of the eighteenth – tweneenth centuries, a carillon, installed in 2001. The tour ends on the belfry landing 138 feet high, from where visitors can have spectacular views over the St Petersburg skyline.
