The solemn ceremony with regards to the Nuclear Fuel Supply Contract for Rooppur NPP was held between JSC TVEL and the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission in Dhaka on August 6, 2019. TVEL JSC is designated as the single source supplier of nuclear fuel for both units of Rooppur NPP during their entire lifecycle.
“As a part of Rosatom’s integrated offer, TVEL Fuel Company will provide Rooppur NPP with up-to-date efficient nuclear fuel with successful operation experience at the reference power units. Negotiating this contract, TVEL has maximally met the customer requirements in regard of fuel supply terms. I am confident that the contract will be strictly accomplished and our fuel will once again demonstrate the high level of Russian nuclear technologies”, Natalia Nikipelova, President of TVEL JSC, commented.
Rusatom Overseas JSC coordinated the negotiations with the Bangladeshi side. “As part of this contract implementation, Bangladesh will be provided with guaranteed supplies of nuclear fuel for the entire life cycle of Rooppur NPP. This will contribute to the strengthening of friendly bilateral relations and the strategic partnership between Bangladesh and Russia in the field of nuclear energy,” said Evgeny Pakermanov, President of Rusatom Overseas JSC.
The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant with a total capacity of 2,400 MW is under construction about 160 km from the capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka. The General Contract for the RNPP was signed on December 25, 2015. The Russian design project withVVER-1200 reactor, selected for the first Bangladeshi NPP, has been successfully implemented at Unit No 1 of Novovoronezh NPP-2. This is an evolutionary generation III+ project that fully complies with all international safety requirements.
