Background
BOTAS, a Turkish state-owned oil-and-gas company, is one of the biggest players in Türkiye’s natural gas market.
For almost 40 years, BOTAS has been Türkiye’s main importer of Russian gas. In addition, the constructive interaction between Gazprom and BOTAS made it possible to successfully implement the Blue Stream project and the TurkStream project. In particular, the parties jointly built the transit gas pipeline across Türkiye stretching from the Black Sea coast to the country’s border with Bulgaria.
