The Lumiere Brothers Center for Photography is presenting an exhibition of the work of Gennady Bodrov as part of its research project “Anthology of Russian Photography of the XXth Century. Photos 80-90.”
2019 marks the 20th anniversary of Kursk-born Bodrov’s tragic death at 41 in a botched robbery. Considering himself to be first and foremost a social photographer, Bodrov captured the daily routines of life in the rural outback: children’s games, adult conversations, religious celebrations and the ups and downs of day-to-day existence when commodities were a struggle and survival was key.
He inscribed the phrase “A simple motif” on the back of many of his works.
The exhibition will run until Nov. 2, 2019.
