Zvezda Shipbuilding Complex launched metal cutting for the third Aframax tanker with deadweight of 114,000 tonnes. The construction was started on the state-of-the-art flame unit in the hull production facility.
The metal-cutting ceremony was attended by representatives of the customers, Rosnefteflot and State Transport Leasing Company, as well as Russian Maritime Register of Shipping, and personnel of Zvezda.
The first-in-class Aframax tanker was laid down on the Zvezda berth last September, with attendance of Vladimir Putin, President of Russia. The construction of the Aframax tankers allows Zvezda exploring up-to-date technology for large-capacity vessels. Aframax tankers will be the first of this class built in the Russian Federation. The most sophisticated shipyard in Russia is equipped with modern units providing for highest-precision methods of marking, welding and cutting of metal, including the laser and 3D-modeling ones.
The Aframax series comprise 12 vessels; the production and assembling of the first two vessels’ sections is being carried out in the blocks and berth of the shipyard. The first tanker is scheduled to be delivered next year.
Environment-friendly Aframax tankers are designed for carrying oil and petroleum products in unrestricted navigation. The vessel is designed in accordance with high eco-standards – the main and additional power supply units can operate on the green fuel, the liquefied natural gas. The future tanker’s length is 250 metres, width 44 metres, and deadweight 114,000 tonnes. There is a helicopter pad on the tanker.
