This is one of the latest monuments in Saint Petersburg set up in 1957 during the celebration of the 250th anniversary of Saint Petersburg. The monument is the creation of the sculptor M. K. Anykushin; his exceptionally warm and emotional portrayal of the great poet has won the hearts of the people. The memorial has become a natural part of the ensemble of the square.
