Russia’s ambassador to Sudan, Mirgayas Shirinsky, was found dead by embassy workers on Wednesday in his residence in the country’s capital, Khartoum, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced on Facebook.
According to the embassy’s press secretary, Sergei Konyashin, foul play has been ruled out and the cause of the death was most likely a heart attack or a stroke.
Shirinsky was born in 1954 and graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations in 1977. He began his diplomatic service immediately after studies and served in Yemen, Saudi Arabia, and most recently in Rwanda (2006-2013).
