The first round of Ukraine’s presidential elections last Sunday was met with widespread interest in Russia, thanks in part to extensive coverage on Russian state television.
According to the official results published on Wednesday, actor and comedian Volodymyr Zelensky secured first place with 30.3 percent of the votes. Current Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko trailed in second place with 16 percent.
The two candidates will now face in a run-off election scheduled for April 21.
We headed to the streets of Moscow to ask locals what they thought of the results — and the possibility of Zelensky becoming the president of Ukraine.
